They were all sleeping in the afternoon,
When I was approached by my lady,
“ Let us enjoy the soothing shade
of our pleasure garden”.

The Island of Šipan is the largest of the Elaphite Islands , whose name goes as far back as the times of Plinius the Elder during the 1st century A.D. The Guinness World Records book notes how this island has the largest number of olive trees in the world in relation to its size and population.
The island's wealth can be seen through its magnificent cultural heritage that consists of 42 summer mansios and 34 churches over an area of 16 square kilometers.
There is a fertile field located in the center of the island, surrounded by lush natural vegetation that is notable not only for its beauty, but also for its diversity with over 600 plant species that found sanctuary right here on the Island of Šipan.
The Daničić family has nurtured a wine-growing tradition on Šipan Island over the span of many centuries and has become a leading producer of wine in the region of the City of Dubrovnik during recent times. The Daničić family produces two excellent red wines: ŠIPAN, made from «Plavac mali» grapes, and ŠIME, made from Merlot grapes.
The Daničić family also cultivates an autochthonic variety of olives, particularly the Kosmača sort, which has survived on the island since the times of the Dubrovnik Republic. These olives produce a high quality of extra virgin olive oil, for which reason the island of Šipan has proudly been called the “Golden Island” throughout the centuries.
